Cheer and Pom Information

Fee Information

Fees for the 2024 season:
Cheer Instructional:  $200
Cheer Freshman, JV, and Varsity:  $315

Sibling Discount:  A discount is applied for each additional sibling.  You will receive a $25 discount for the second participant, $50 discount for the third participant, and $100 discount for the fourth participant's registration fee if applicable.

Uniform and Volunteer Deposit:  A Refundable Deposit of $300 for each family will be collected in the form of a check or cash and will be returned to you at the end of the season as long as you have fulfilled all of your required family volunteer requirements and have returned all equipment.  For more information on the Volunteer Requirements, please see the Volunteer tab.  This check will be collected at equipment pickup day and will be held in a safe deposit box at our bank, First Merit, in South Lyon and will not be cashed unless the requirement of volunteering and equipment return are not met.  It will be very important for all families to remember to sign-in for your volunteer spots to avoid any issues with volunteering.  Checks and cash will be returned to you at equipment return.

Refund Policy:  We charge fees in the following manner in regards to registration.

After registering online a $10 administrative fee would be deducted from your refund.

Once the first practice day arrives, no refund is offered.

Key Dates - 2024 Season

Registration: Online beginning in mid-February

Pre-registration is required and can be done at our website by visiting the registration page.  Once online registration is complete, you will also need to attend one of the uniform sizing events in April to get sized for your uniform and attend an all parent meeting.  Returning players with veteran status must register by the April in-person event date to maintain veteran status for 2024.

Uniform Sizing/Parent Information Meeting: April

You will need to provide a copy of a current physical and a current report card (not original copy) of the participant or student info page from Skyward Family Access.  All participants are required to provide a copy of their birth certificate as participants 14 years of age and older as of May 1, 2024 cannot participate.  A hard copy of these items are required for our records and a child cannot participate until the above items are submitted. These should be submitted to your team unit director and will be required before the first day of practice. 

Team Placement: May - Board Attendance Only

The LCAJFL and South Lyon Panthers will conduct our annual team placement meeting in which your child will be placed on an available team by color and level.  The is done by blind draw only.  We cannot and will not be able to place a participant on a specific team color.  The process is governed by the LCAJFL and not the South Lyon Panthers.

Player Notification: Mid to late May

Your Unit Director or a Board Member will contact you no later than the end of May.  If you have not been contacted by June 1, please contact any Board Member.  If a participant is not placed on a team and on a waiting list, you will be notified by a Board Member soon after the Team Placement event.

Practice: August

Practices will be held Monday through Thursday beginning in early August.  Prior to the start of school, practices are generally 2 days of sideline (including stunting and tumbling), one day of competitive cheer, and one day of competitive pom.  Practices will change to 3 days per week after the first game or the start of the school year.  The 3 days will be split between sideline, competitive cheer, and competitive pom.  All participants entering 1st or 2nd grades will be placed on an Instructional team.  Instructional teams will practice 3 days per week both before and after the first game or start of the school year.

Pantherfest: Late August

Our annual Pantherfest is a scrimmage and celebration of the upcoming season. Pantherfest is a mandatory event unless prior arrangements have been made with your coach or unit director. Instructional levels do not participate in the scrimmage.

Game Days:  Saturdays, August - October (no games Labor Day weekend)

Games will be played on Saturdays at locations across the LCAJFL.  Cheerleading is an outdoor sport and there are times when participants must cheer in various types of weather including sleet, snow, rain, and temperatures.  Cheer/Pom participants will cheer as long as the South Lyon Panthers football players are on the field...No Exceptions.  Participants should always bring a water bottle to practices and games.

Competition/Festival:  October each season

Teams will participate in a Cheer/Pom competition known as the Festival on a Sunday in October.  Parents are required to complete a Festival participation form if their child will be attending the Festival.

Attendance:

Participants are expected to attend all practices and games as well as the Festival.  This is a team sport and all practices are mandatory during the program to ensure the success of all participants. click here for full attendance policy. 

Attire:

Practices:  Participants are expected to wear shorts or pants and practice t-shirts that provided by the organization, and/or sweatshirts to all practices.  All participants must wear tennis shoes and have their hair pulled away from their face and in a pony tail.  Jeans, jewelry, or spaghetti strap tank tops are not permitted.  Parents are encouraged to watch their children at practice to both encourage them and help them learn their routines.

Games:  Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time and wear their complete uniform (vest, midriff, skirt, socks, pants, white shoes, and jacket/coat).  The Unit Director will determine which items need to be worn based on weather conditions.  All participants must be dressed alike in order to cheer at games.

Festival:  All participants must wear their vest, midriff, skirt, socks, and new shoes.  Your Unit Director will provide additional information prior to event.  Since the Festival is a competitive event and teams will be scored based on their performance, it is important for all participants to dress appropriately and not negatively impact their team score.

Equipment Return: Late October of Early November

All equipment must be turned in for your family to be in good standing with the Panthers Organization.
